Brevard County Blues Society, Inc. was founded in June 2006 in alliance with local
musicians, venue owners, business professionals and other volunteers to support,
promote and preserve the Blues in Brevard County.
The founding members of the society bring separate and different talents and
expertise to the society. The knowledge and experience of musicians themselves
help the society have first hand knowledge of the daily struggles they experience
and what support is needed. The venue owners and business professionals donate
their knowledge, time and experience in assisting the Brevard County Blues
musicians with services that they otherwise could not afford.
Together, these individuals formed a society to act as a “resource” for the benefit
of the Brevard County Blues musicians. The goals of the society are solely meant to
assist the musicians.
It is the society’s intent to solicit funds from local corporations, professionals
and business to enable their goals to be met.
GOALS:
BENEVOLENCE FUND: The founders of this Society have witnessed too many times the
families of musicians who have passed away not have the means to seek qualified
legal counsel to advise them as to the laws governing the settling of their
loved one’s estate. The Society hopes to offer referrals to attorneys who will consult
with these families at reduced legal rates and assist with the payment of the
consultation on behalf of the families. Requests for assistance may be made at
info@BrevardBlues.org and an application will be mailed to you.
SCHOLARSHIP FUND: Our Brevard County Blues musicians are hard working, creative
individuals who live for the music. Their children are the next generation of
this talent. In an attempt to assist and support the Brevard County Blues
musicians, the Society will offer a yearly scholarship at a denomination not less
than $500.00 per year to one qualified student who has been accepted to an
accredited junior or senior college. Request for applications may be made at
info@BrevardBlues.org and an application will be mailed to you.
INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE: As an affiliate society of The Blues Foundation,
Brevard County Blues Society is eligible to and encourages sending both a solo/duo
blues performance act as well as a blues band to the International Blues Challenge
to be held annually in Memphis, Tennessee. The majority of the funds to assist
with the Brevard County Blues Society entrants travel expenses will be solicited
from local corporations, business and other professionals. Each year the Society
will request that individual/duo blues performers and blues bands interested in
being considered by the Society for sponsorship to the IBC to compete on behalf
of the Society, submit their request to info@BrevardBlues.org by October 1st of
each year. The Society will hold an annual performance competition of qualified
applicants (please see official IBC rules and regulations at http://www.blues.org/ibc/index.php4)
which will be judged by a panel of venues owners, blues DJ’s and other persons possessing
knowledge of music, selected by the Society Board. The Society encourages
interested musicians to apply.
HOSPITALITY TENTS AT LOCAL BLUES EVENTS AND FESTIVALS: Any local promoter who
will be employing Brevard County Blues musicians to perform at their events may
request the society to provide and host a hospitality tent for the benefit of
those musicians. The hospitality tent will enable the musicians to have the
equivalent of a “green room" both prior to and after their performances.
Nonperishable foods, as well as bottled water and soft-drinks will be available
at no-charge to the musicians performing at the event. Any promoter requesting
this service may contact the society at info@BrevardBlues.org.
This Society hopes to expand their support of the local Blues Musicians in the
future as their donations and funds grow.
